THE FUN THEY HAD

THE FUN THEY HAD EXPLANATION : BEFORE YOU READ  The story we shall read is set in the future, when books and schools as we now know them will perhaps not exist. How will children study then? The diagram below may give you some ideas. Explanation : The story of this lesson is set in the future. It compares the schools, textbooks of today's world with that of the future. In other words, the story of this lesson compares the educational system of today's world with that of the future. Now let us look at the diagram below to have some idea regarding schools of the future. Now  let us read the story and try to understand what it is all about! Passage : MARGIE even wrote about it that night in her diary. On the page headed 17 May 2157, she wrote, "Today Tommy found a real book!"                 It was a very old book. Margie's grandfather once said that when he was a little boy his grandfather told him that there was a time when...

AT FIFTEEN I WENT WITH THE ARMY

AT FIFTEEN I WENT WITH THE ARMY ( By Unknown Chinese Poet, Translated by Arthur Waley) At fifteen, I went with the army At four score, I came home. On the way, I met a man from the village. I asked him who there was at home. 'That over there is your house, All covered over with tress and bushes.' Rabbits had run in at the dog-hole, Pheasants flew down from the beams of the roof. In the courtyard was growing some wild grain; And by the well, some wild mallows. I'll boil the grain and make porridge  I'll pluck the mallows and make soup. Soup and porridge are both cooked, But there is no one to eat them with. I went out and looked towards the east, While tears fell and wetted my clothes.

MY CHERRY TREE

My Cherry Tree - Emu Sangkit Foning I saw this morning A sturdy man  Swing his rusty axe Upon a shiny trunk. He hacked it once,  He hacked it twice, He hacked a hundred times I'm sure. Doesn't he know It's my favourite tree Growing there over the years? Hasn't he seen Its November blush Glowing against blue skies? Doesn't he know The birds will wait For March and the cherries red? Perhaps, perhaps he planted the tree, Perhaps, perhaps he needs it now, Perhaps, perhaps h has the right To jab it and hack it to pieces. THAT TIME OF YEAR THOU MAYST IN ME BEHOLD

THAT TIME OF YEAR THOU MAYST IN ME BEHOLD (SONNET No. 73) - WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE That time of year thou mayst in me behold When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang Upon those boughs which shake against the cold, Bare ruine'd choirs where late the sweet birds sang. In me thou seest the twilight of such day  As after sunset fadeth in the west, Which by and by black night doth take away, Death's second self, that seals up all in rest. In me thou seest the glowing of such fire That on the ashes ashes of his youth doth lie, As the death-bed whereon it must expire, Consum'd with that which it was nourishe'd by. This thou perceiv'st, which makes thy love more strong,    To love that well which thou must leave ere long.
