LETTER TO THE EDITOR


What is a letter to the editor? 
It is a formal letter which is written to the editor of a newspaper or a magazine to highlight a social issue or problem. 

Points to remember:
(a) Format
(b) Content
(c) Expression { it consists grammatical accuracy, appropriate words and spellings}

FORMAT :

It includes the following- 
1. Sender's Address : The address and contact details are given here. 

2. Date : The date is written below the sender's address after leaving one space or line. 

3. Receiver's Address : The address of the editor is written here. 

4. Subject of the letter : The main purpose of the letter is mentioned in the subject. It must be written in one line. It must convey the matter for which the letter is written. 

5. Salutation : Here you have to write Respected Sir / Madam

6. Body : The matter of the letter is written here. It is divided into 3 paragraphs as follows: 
Paragraph 1 - Introduce yourself and the purpose of writing the letter in brief. 

Paragraph 2- Give a detail of the matter. 

Paragraph 3- Conclude the letter by mentioning what you expect from the editor. For example - You may want him /her to highlight the issue in his newspaper or magazine.

7. Complementary Closing 
8. Sender's name, signature and designation (if any)

Or

Or 
4. Various complaint have been filed....

5. I believe that your newspaper..... 

Closing lines / How to end the letter? 
1. I request you to highlight this issue... 
Or
2. I expect my letter to find the suitable space in your newspaper... 
Or 
3. I hope this issue will be brought into light.... 
Or
4. So, it is my humble request that you highlight this issue in your newspaper and spread awareness among the people.. .. 
Or
5. Therefore, I request you to highlight the issue in your newspaper and generate public interest...

Such sight is not only gross but also harmful for human health, animals and environment. 
There is a crucial need to create awareness among the public to keep the locality clean and green. The dumping of garbage in an open space creates foul smell that is very unbearable and impacts the health of everyone. 
It is the responsibility of every citizens as well as the authorities to keep their surroundings clean and green. Each household make use of dustbin and the authorities should also fulfill their responsibilities to manage the garbage disposal. They should take strict action if anyone is found throwing garbage in public places. 
I request you to highlight the problem in your newspaper and arouse public interest.
