Answer : In the story, the author highlights the cruelty and heartlessness of human beings towards innocent animals. The behaviour of the Tiger King is an indirect comment on this cruelty and heartlessness.
The astrologers had only predicted that the king's death would come from a tiger. Instead of keeping himself safe and away from tigers, the king decides to go hunting and kill all the tigers in his kingdom.
Although no tiger had ever done any harm to any person in his kingdom. But still the king decides to kill them mercilessly. In fact, he kills so many tigers that not a single tiger is left in the forests of his kingdom.
Even after getting married to a girl from a royal family, his only purpose is to kill the tigers in his father-in- law's kingdom. He kills all the tigers there also.
At last, the dewan has to arrange an old tiger for the king to hunt it down. Even when the old tiger stands humbly before the king, he shows no mercy and takes a careful aim and fires.
It really shows the cruelty and heartlessness of the king. In this way the author has indirectly commented on the cruelty and heartlessness of human beings with regard to their behaviour towards innocent animals.
